The Skin-Immune Connection: Best Supplements for Immune Health and Glowing Skin

Taking care of your overall health is essential, and a strong immune system plays a key role in keeping you feeling your best. Not only does a well-supported immune system help fight off infections, but it also contributes to vibrant, healthy skin. Your skin is your body’s largest organ, and what you put inside your body directly affects how it looks and feels. With that in mind, I’ve created a list of products I use to stay healthy and support glowing skin from the inside out.

Elderberry

What is elderberry? Elderberry is a natural berry that grows on the European elder tree. It is a plant that comes in several different varieties from the Sambucus tree. What are the benefits of elderberry? Elderberry is highly nutritious, low in calories, and packed with antioxidants. It contains vitamin C, phenolic acids, and anthocyanins, which help reduce inflammation, support immune function, and protect the skin from oxidative stress that can lead to premature aging. How do I take it? I have a tablet that combines elderberry and zinc, which I dissolve in my water along with some frozen strawberries. I also use elderberry in lozenge form. How often do I take it? I add the tablet to my water about once or twice a week. You don’t want to take elderberry too often because your body can become accustomed to it.

Zinc

What is zinc? Zinc is an essential nutrient found in both plant and animal foods. Our bodies cannot produce or store zinc, so it’s important to get enough from our diet or supplements. What are the benefits of zinc? Zinc supports immune function, reduces inflammation, and promotes wound healing. It also plays a crucial role in maintaining healthy skin by regulating oil production, preventing acne breakouts, and supporting collagen synthesis. How do I take it? I take zinc in tablet form, as well as in my elderberry and zinc supplement tablet. How often do I take it? I take a zinc tablet whenever I start to feel under the weather or before traveling to give my immune system a boost. However, I avoid taking it daily, as too much zinc can be harmful.

Probiotics

What are probiotics? Probiotics are beneficial bacteria that support gut health, which is closely linked to skin health. A balanced gut microbiome helps reduce inflammation and prevent skin conditions like acne, eczema, and rosacea. What are the benefits of probiotics? Probiotics not only promote digestive health but also support immune function and reduce inflammation, both of which are essential for maintaining clear, glowing skin. How do I take them and how often? I take a probiotic supplement daily to maintain a healthy balance of gut bacteria.

Vitamins

Which vitamins do I take? I take vitamins C, B1, and B12.What are the benefits of these vitamins?

  • Vitamin C: A powerful antioxidant that boosts collagen production, brightens skin, and helps fight free radical damage.

  • Vitamin B1: Supports energy production and helps reduce skin sensitivity and irritation.

  • Vitamin B12: Promotes healthy cell production, which is crucial for maintaining even skin tone and texture. How do I take them? I get vitamin C from drinking orange juice and eating fruits and vegetables. I get my B vitamins from a strawberry lemonade-flavored dissolvable tablet. How often do I take them? I add these tablets to my water almost every day.

Staying Hydrated

I drink water all day, every day (when I'm not indulging in a little wine). Hydration is essential for skin elasticity, preventing dryness, and flushing out toxins. In addition to water, I also enjoy orange juice, apple juice, cranberry juice, and electrolyte drinks occasionally to replenish my body’s nutrients.

Plenty of Sleep

Getting enough rest is one of the most underrated beauty secrets. Sleep is essential for cell regeneration, reducing dark circles, and maintaining an overall youthful appearance. I try to get to bed by 9 PM, but when that doesn’t happen, I aim for 10:30 PM and wake up at 6 AM to ensure I get a good amount of rest.

These are just a few things I do to keep my immune system strong and my skin looking radiant. I have a whole list of other things I want to try, and as I explore them, I’ll be sharing my experiences with you all. Until next time... stay healthy, stay glowing, and take care of your skin from the inside out! ✨
